Oil paintings

View towards the Severn Vale Grumpy old man.
Oil sketch based on a watercolour of trees overhanging water... Still life concentrating on trying not to paint the glass, just what you see where the glass is.
Oil sketch of a canal side house at the bridge at Saul Junction on the Sharpness canal A patchy image. Based on an old life class drawing. It is difficult to create a convincing feel for natural light when it isn't in front of you. I have never tried oil painting in the open air. The thought of all the tubes and solvents scares me off.
Work in progress. A study of Velázquez Reclining Venus. Copford Parish church. A Norman church with wall paintings which look more Byzantine than English. My parents were married here in RAF uniform during World War II

A pointillist view of a field gate. Interesting exercise in seeing what is suggested by the blobs. A tricky pose but an interesting one and the colour is good.
I am of the opinion that pictures on boats should  take your mind off the generally terrifying situation you have got yourself into. I don't have pictures of boats on my boat. These two pictures fit together in a little corner of my boat's cabin to form a 3-D diptych. Helps keep your mind off the storm outside.
The odd shape of this just fits around the cooker unit in the boat. What other justification do you need? A curious still life. I like the colours but do I like the picture? Not sure.
One of the few oil "knife" paintings I have done. Good strong composition but the colours are a bit muddied. A powerful, fast way to paint. Quite expensive to as it uses a great deal of paint. This is another knife painting which hangs in our living room. I offered this for sale last summer and nobody bought it. They will regret it one day. "Do you know, I could have bought an original JEGS once, for half a florin, but that were more than a year's wages in those days" etc. etc.
A simple view down the backwater lagoons in Kerala. Oil on MDF panel. This lives on my boat with other small paintings Vienna, my home town, seen from the Belvedere Palace, home of the best collection of Klimts in the world, but not as good as it used to be.
